Service planning guide
Packing services and moving checklist
Packing services can cover supplying boxes, wrapping belongings, packing selected rooms or preparing an entire property for a move. Start with an inventory and agree on exactly what the provider is taking responsibility for.
Prepare the inventory
- Separate everyday belongings, fragile items, bulky furniture and items that need specialist handling.
- Identify anything you will transport yourself, including important documents and valuables.
- Explain whether furniture needs dismantling or reassembly.
- List items that require original packaging or specific handling instructions.
- Confirm any items the provider will not pack or transport.
Agree on materials and access
- Ask whether boxes, wrapping, labels and protective materials are included.
- Record stairs, lifts, parking and loading windows at each location.
- Choose a labelling system that identifies room and contents without exposing sensitive details.
- Arrange utility access and keep essential items available.
- Confirm who removes packaging after delivery.
Check handover and responsibility
- Distinguish packing from transport, storage and unpacking services.
- Ask what cover applies, its limits and how loss or damage is reported.
- Keep the inventory and record the condition of significant items.
- Get the schedule, price, exclusions and variation process in writing.
