Cost planning
Kitchen renovation cost planner
A kitchen renovation price depends on the room, specification and work included. Keeping the layout can involve a different scope from moving plumbing, walls or electrical services. Use written project quotes rather than treating a national average as a price for your home.
Build a scope that can be priced
- Record the room measurements and proposed layout.
- Specify cabinetry materials, hardware and benchtop details.
- List appliances, sinks, taps and who supplies them.
- Separate demolition, waste removal and making good.
- Confirm plumbing, electrical and other specialist work.
- Ask which approvals, inspections or site checks are needed.
- Document exclusions, variations, timing and payment stages.
Compare quotes on the same basis
Give each provider the same brief and ask for included work, exclusions, tax and likely extra charges in writing. Confirm whether you have received an estimate or a firm quote, how changes will be approved and what happens if site conditions differ. A cheaper headline amount may cover less work.
The WA Consumer Protection guide to estimates, quotes and deposits explains the distinction. Check business identity and any relevant licence before engaging a provider.
Keep a record
Save the agreed brief, quote, schedule and any written changes. Keep an allowance for work not yet priced separate from the accepted supplier amount. This planner does not calculate a market average, decide which approvals apply or guarantee that an allowance will cover the final bill.
