Vanishing-premium terminology describes a life-policy illustration in which future premiums are expected to be funded by policy values or dividends under stated assumptions. The expression does not guarantee that payments will stop.
The distinction that matters
An illustration, a contractual paid-up benefit and a fixed premium-payment term are different things. Lower returns or different charges can alter an illustrated outcome.
What to check
- Which future payments are guaranteed to cease.
- The assumptions behind the illustration.
- Ongoing insurance and expense charges.
- Consequences if cash values are insufficient.
Example to discuss
Ask the insurer to show the contractual requirement to pay, separately from a projection suggesting that future policy earnings may fund it.
This is a hypothetical comparison, not a customer claim or a determination of cover.
Jurisdiction and scope
This is an explanation of terminology found in overseas life-policy material. It does not establish that a similarly named product is currently offered in Australia, or that US guarantees, tax treatment or legal rules apply here.
