Centrelink applies both tests and pays the lower result. Your principal home is exempt from the assets test, and most retirees' income is largely deemed income on financial assets rather than actual earnings.

This calculator gives a simplified estimate for general guidance only, not financial advice and not a Centrelink assessment. It uses the maximum standard rates (including supplements) from 20 March 2026 — $1,200.90 per fortnight single, $1,810.40 combined for a couple — and the income and assets test thresholds that apply from 1 July 2026. It does not model deeming, the Work Bonus, transitional rates, rent assistance, couples separated by illness, or gifting rules. Rates and thresholds are indexed during the year — confirm current figures with Services Australia before acting.
