Mill Park is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 22km north of Melbourne’s Central Business District. Its local government area is the City of Whittlesea. At the 2016 Census, Mill Park had a population of 28,919.
Mill Park is bounded by the Metropolitan Ring Road to the north, Plenty Road to the east, the Merri Creek to the south and the Darebin Creek to the west.
History
Mill Park was originally part of the Parish of Keelbundoora, which was surveyed in 1837. The area was originally known as West Preston, and was renamed Mill Park in the 1950s.
The area was originally used for farming and market gardens, and was home to the Wurundjeri people prior to European settlement.
The first school in the area was opened in 1877, and was known as the West Preston School. The school was renamed Mill Park Primary School in the 1950s.
The area was developed in the 1970s and 1980s, with the first housing estate being built in the area in the late 1970s.
The Mill Park Library opened in 1989, and was expanded in 2004.
