Footscray is a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, located 8 km west of the city’s central business district. It is the administrative centre of the City of Maribyrnong and is characterised by a very diverse, multicultural central shopping area, which reflects the successive waves of immigration experienced by Melbourne. Footscray is home to a large number of Vietnamese, Cambodian, Lao, and Sudanese immigrants, as well as a significant number of students from the nearby Victoria University. Footscray is known for its vibrant street life, with a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars. It is also home to the Footscray Market, which has been operating since 1878 and is one of the oldest markets in Australia. Footscray is well connected to the rest of Melbourne by public transport, with a number of bus and train services running through the suburb.
