Mount Waverley is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located approximately 20 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s central business district. It is located in the local government area of the City of Monash. The suburb is named after the Waverley Road, which was named after Sir Walter Scott’s novel Waverley in 1845. The area was originally known as “Mount Pleasant”, but was changed to Mount Waverley in the 1920s. The suburb is known for its large shopping centre, Mount Waverley Village, which is located on the corner of Waverley Road and Stephensons Road. The suburb is also home to a number of schools, including Mount Waverley Primary School, Mount Waverley Secondary College, and Mount Waverley North Primary School. The suburb is also home to a number of parks, including Mount Waverley Reserve, Mount Waverley Park, and Mount Waverley Gardens.
