Mount Isa is a city in the Gulf Country region of Queensland, Australia. It is the administrative, commercial and industrial centre for the state’s vast north-western region. The city is located on the banks of the Leichhardt River, about 1,700 kilometres (1,100 mi) from the state capital, Brisbane. The city is known for its copper, lead, zinc and silver mining, as well as its rodeo and festivals. The city also has a vibrant arts and culture scene, with a number of galleries, museums, and performing arts venues. The city is also home to a number of parks and reserves, including the Riversleigh Fossil Site, which is a World Heritage Site.
