Broken Hill is a city in the far west of New South Wales, Australia. It is located near the border with South Australia on the crossing of the Barrier Highway and the Silver City Highway, in the Barrier Range. It is the largest city in the Far West region, and the administrative centre of the City of Broken Hill. The city has a population of approximately 18,000 people and is the main hub of the Far West region. The city is known for its mining industry, which has been in operation since the late 19th century. The city is also home to a number of cultural attractions, including the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery, the Broken Hill Regional Museum, and the Broken Hill Historical Society.
