Morwell is a city located in the Latrobe Valley region of Victoria, Australia. It is the administrative and commercial centre of the City of Latrobe. The population of Morwell was 13,837 at the 2016 census. The city is located approximately 130km east of Melbourne and 40km west of the regional city of Traralgon. The city is situated on the flat alluvial plains of the Latrobe Valley, which is the main source of Victoria’s electricity. The city is known for its coal mining, power generation and manufacturing industries. The Morwell River flows through the city and is a popular recreational area. The city is home to a number of parks and gardens, including the Morwell National Park, which is located on the outskirts of the city. The city also has a number of sporting facilities, including the Latrobe Valley Athletics Centre, the Morwell Recreation Reserve and the Morwell Golf Club.
