Hawthorn East is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located 8 km east of Melbourne’s Central Business District. Its local government area is the City of Boroondara. At the 2016 Census, Hawthorn East had a population of 8,945.
The suburb is bounded by Auburn Road to the north, Tooronga Road to the east, Warrigal Road to the south and Burke Road to the west. It is a residential suburb, with a mix of detached houses, townhouses and apartments. The suburb is home to a number of schools, including Auburn South Primary School, Auburn High School, St Joseph’s Primary School and St Joseph’s College.
Hawthorn East is well serviced by public transport, with a number of bus routes running through the suburb. The nearest train station is Auburn Station, located on the Glen Waverley line. The suburb is also close to the Monash Freeway, providing easy access to the city and surrounding suburbs.
