History
The suburb was originally known as Eagleby Island, as it was an island in the Logan River. The island was created when the Logan River was dammed in 1887 to form Lake Albert. The dam was built to provide a reliable water supply to the sugar cane farms in the area. The island was connected to the mainland in the early 1900s when the Logan River was dredged.
The area was originally used for farming, but in the 1950s it was subdivided for residential development. The suburb was officially named Eagleby in 1975.
The Eagleby Community Centre was opened in 1979.
